Cinderella: My next door neighbor!

Oh yes! We did our first genre experiment of this year and laughed our heads off !!

All we did was the subtraction magic and the addition of realism. From a fairy, Cinderella became our next-door teen, with worldly issues of studies, career, boyfriend and much more. Our real-life Cinderella seemed to have a more hassled life than the one from popular fairytale. Read on!

Abhiram's  Cinderella lived in New Delhi with her mean aunt and cousins. She was more like a house-maid, who got bread, butter and water as her meals. One day ShahRukh Khan came to her house to invite everyone for a party he was throwing. (By the way, he came in his BMW). Cinderella was kept locked in the house as everyone left for the party. Then Narendra Modi ji came to her rescue. They exchanged 'namaste'. He gave her money to buy a dress from Amazon and then booked an Ola cab for her. He told her to be back by 7 pm (Cabs not safe for girls in Delhi after 7, you see!) Happy girl Cinderella went to the party and danced with ShahRukh Khan. Like an obedient girl, she returned at 7 but left her shoe there. ShahRukh Khan searched all of Delhi for the girl who would fit into that shoe. He found her and got married to her. They lived happily ever after.

Samay's Cinderella lived in Mangalore. She was an engineer and worked with SAP. A guy named Prince (after all, what's Cinderella without her prince anyways) invited Cinderella and her step mother with step-sisters for a party. Naturally Cinderella  wasn't allowed to go. But she finished her work fast, got a dress and plastic shoes from Flipkart, booked an Ola auto and went to the party. She returned by 12 midnight. The next day Prince and his dad started looking for her on their pet donkey. Cinderella's mother came to know all this. She locked her in a room and kept the keys in her pocket. Two rats also got to know all this. They helped Cinderella come out. No one could fit into the shoe but Cinderella. She got married to Prince in Bangalore, as Prince wanted the wedding to happen in Bangalore and not Mangalore. One day, they went to a theatre to watch a movie and died in a bomb blast. They didn't live happily every after.

Geordie's Cinderella lived in Mumbai in a mansion. She made friends easily and often fell in trouble.  She was not as famous as her family was. Once her mother died in a plane crash. Everyone was very sad. It went on like that for some time. One day, she got an e-mail from the government of India. She was surprised to see that she had been elected as the governor. Just then police officials came to take her to Delhi for a big speech. Her family was shocked. Cinderella could become the Prime Minister. They became very jealous. Once, she had to go to another country to attend a party. She wanted to go by airplane, but the rules said that she had to take the train. The jealous family became more jealous. Meanwhile Cinderella reached there and saw someone. She liked him. They danced together. Now, the jealous family had planted a bomb in this palace. The security guards got to know this. The place was evacuated. But Cinderella and her special person couldn't come out. They lived happily ever after in the heaven.

Misha's Cinderella had step-mom Lady Andrea and two step-sisters, Anestasia and Drisella. Cinderella was ill-treated in the house and was made to do all house-chores. One day, her father passed away. Her situation became worse in the house. It went like this for some time. One day, a postman brought an invitation from DJ player for a party. It was decided that everyone but Cinderella would go. Cinderella was very sad but determined to go. She took out an old disco-party dress from the attic and worked on it. It looked new. When the step-sisters saw the dress, they wanted it and fought for it. The dress got torn. Cinderella cried but since she was determined to go, she ordered a dress and shoes from Myntra. She booked an Ola cab and went to the party. At 12, she rushed back and left her shoe there by mistake. DJ player wanted to marry her. He looked for the girl who would fit into that shoe. He found her. They go married and lived happily every after.

Nayana wanted to write on Sleeping Beauty. Her story is a satire on modern party-going people's levels of superstitions. In her story, a family celebrated their first child's first birthday and called 3 astrologers to predict her future. They forgot to invite another astrologer who was a very mean one. As the first 3 were telling their predictions, the 4th and mean one entered angrily. She was angry as no one invited her of course. Instead of prediction, she cursed the girl and malevolently said that the girl would die on her 20th birthday. The first 3 kind astrologers took the girl away with them and told the parents that they would keep her safe and would return on her 20th birthday. Years passed. On her 20th birthday, the girl was sent to the market by the astrologers' mothers. Now this market had a DJ night show happening that night. The girl saw a handsome man there. They both danced. Meanwhile, the astrologers' mothers stitched a nice dress for her and baked a cake too. (So that's why she was sent off to the market, to give her a surprise). She had fun after returning home too. Just then, they found fruits at the door. She ate one and fainted. Mothers called up a doctor. The same guy from the DJ night dance came (he was a doctor). The girl was thus saved. They got married and lived happily ever after.
By the way the girl's name was Arora and the guy's name was Philip.
